![]() Munjal Shah CEO & Co-Founder Munjal Shah is Co-founder and CEO of Riya Inc (makers of Like.com). Together with Burak Gokturk, he co-founded the company in August of 2004. Munjal is a serial entrepreneur who focuses on building companies from zero to millions in revenue. Prior to Riya he was co-founder and CEO of Andale Inc, a provider of software to eBay merchants. While he was CEO, Andale grew from 0 to double digit millions in revenue. Prior to Andale, Baan, IBM, and a startup called Blaxxun Interactive. Munjal started his career in artificial intelligence, writing software for Agouron Pharmaceuticals that predicted the efficacy of anti-HIV drugs. BusinessWeek declared Munjal one of the Top 10 up and coming CEOs in 2001. Munjal has been quoted of hundreds of magazines including the Wall Street Journal, the New York Times, Business 2.0, and many others. Munjal has won a Demo God award for the launch of Riya (like.com) in 2006. Munjal sits on the advisor board to a number of very early stage startups including: Yousendit, Auyptima (sold to Oracle), Pubmatic, and MesmoTV. Munjal is very active in the Entrepreneurial community. In 1996 he co-founded Round Zero, a very popular networking forum during the first Internet boom. ![]() Burak Gokturk, Ph.D. Chief Technology Officer & Co-Founder Burak is the CTO and co-founder at Like.com, and he and his team are the 'brains' behind Like.com's visual search technology. It is Burak's desire to bring the usefulness of the computer vision science to human's attention in this exciting venture. His team's current work aligns with this goal and includes detection and recognition of objects in photos, and similarity search of objects under uncontrolled conditions. His team has also recently focused on developing technologies for online marketing, and on connecting online marketing efforts with search technologies for a better user experience. Prior to Like.com, he developed computer vision algorithms at Canesta, Intel and BEKO. He has been in the vision field for more than 12 years, published more than 30 papers, and holds more than 25 patents/patent applications. His computer vision algorithms have been prototyped and/or implemented in various computer vision products. He developed a 3D shape representation scheme, called 'Random Orthogonal Shape Sections', which achieved one of the best recognition rates for the detection of colon cancer. His other research concentrated on tracking, detection and recognition of 3D shapes and faces, similarity of image representations, medical imaging, 3D image compression. Burak received a BS in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science form Bogazici University, and MS and PhD degrees in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University. |
![]() Matt Mitchell Vice President, Finance Matthew Mitchell has nearly a decade of experience in finance and operations at successful Internet businesses. Prior to joining Like.com in April 2008, Matthew spent four years as Director of Finance & Controller of Reunion.com, a leading people search service and social networking community based in Los Angeles. He was responsible for all finance operations, including forecasting and planning, audit oversight, investment banking, capital structure, and budgeting. He also supported business affairs and business development operations, and served as Corporate Secretary. Earlier, Matthew held various roles in finance and operations with Homestore.com (now Move, Inc.), the leading supplier of media and technology solutions that connect real estate professionals to consumers, and RealNetworks, where he helped in the earliest stages of its digital music platform, MusicNet. Matthew holds an M.B.A. in Finance from Pepperdine University and a B.A. in Business Administration from Seattle University, with a major in E-Commerce and Information Systems. A Seattle native, Matthew has been waiting 30 years for the Seattle Seahawks or Mariners to bring home a championship. |

Gaurav has extensive entrepreneurial experience in building consumer-focused technology businesses, including start-ups as well as new businesses for established media leaders. His experience includes building and leading marketing, business development and operational teams, as well as developing technology-based ideas into innovative products and successful businesses. Prior to joining Like.com, Gaurav was Chief Operating Officer for myTriggers.com, a next-generation comparison shopping site. Earlier, he was VP, New Business Development for NexTag, the leading comparison shopping search engine for Products & Services. Prior to that, Gaurav worked at AOL as Vice President AOL Products, Partner Platforms. He has also held senior business development and operational roles with Veon (sold to Philips Electronics), Comcast Online (Comcast@Home) and Prodigy. Gaurav began his career in investment banking with Dean Witter (now Morgan Stanley ) in New York. ![]() Ben Lee Data Center Architect Benjamin Lee hails from Altus, OK; occasionally known for tornadoes and baseball-size hail. He picked up his BSEE and a wife in Ithaca, NY at Cornell University. Ben is a modern day Renaisance man. He likes to read, travel, play musical instruments, and solve differential equations. When he's not tinkering with hardware and code, he likes to spend his time with his family and two boys. On special occasions, he likes to mix potent potables for the purpose of stripping paint and tonsils, and bakes a mean sugar-free chocolate amaretto cheesecake. ![]() Diem Vu Research Engineer Diem was born in Hanoi, Vietnam. In 1996, he won a scholarship to study in Australia and chose the Monash University. He fondly remembers his 5 wonderful years living in Melbourne, a green and peacefull city in the south of Australia. Diem first arrived in the US in 2002 for post graduate study at UC San Diego. Diem is Proud to be one of the first employees of Riya in April 2005. Diem's freetime is divided into movies, tennis and hanging out with friends. Diem is the self-proclaimed 'world's worst drinker'. A small glass of beer at lunch could take him down for the afternoon. He is also, coincidentally, really into photography (I wonder why he joined our team?). He's been showing off his new Cannon Rebel XP, and we're all jealous. |
![]() Baris Sumengen Senior Researcher Baris received his BS degree from Bogazici University, Turkey in both electrical engineering and mathematics in 1998. He received the MS degree in 2000 and the PhD degree in 2004 in electrical and computer engineering from University of California at Santa Barbara. From 2004 to 2006, he has been a postdoc at UC Santa Barbara Center for Bio-Image Informatics. His research interests include image segmentation and data mining in large multimedia databases. |

![]() Navneet Dalal, Ph.D. Senior Researcher When Navneet was growing up, he wanted to be an aeronautical engineer and was fascinated by spacecrafts and rockets. In his teens he almost decided to become a fine-art painter, but he finally settled on becoming a researcher in computer vision. He is an expert in image matching and object recognition and his passion is to use his expert knowledge to create tools which work simply. He has also worked on creating panoramas from images, image based rendering and developing statistical algorithms using mean shift. He is also co-authoring a book on the mean shift paradigm. Originally from Chandigarh, India, Navneet graduated from the University of Delhi. In 2001, after two years of research and development experience, he moved to the beautiful town of Grenoble in the heart of the French Alps to pursue a M.S. and a Ph.D. at INRIA Rhône-Alpes and ski the Alps in his spare time. He loves to bike, skate, swim, sketch in his spare time and enjoys traveling. |
![]() Achal Rastogi Software Engineer Achal Rastogi hails from the capital of India, New Delhi, where he grew up playing lots of cricket and football. He pursued a Bachelors of Computer Science at the University of Delhi, after which he went on to secure a Masters of Computer Applications from REC Trichy. Achal started his professional career at SQA Technologies (a Bangalore based startup), where he worked on cutting-edge technologies to create next generation automated testing systems. Next, he worked for roughly 2 years at Trilogy India where he gained expertise in product development of enterprise-class software systems. Notably, during this tenure, he along with his friends won $400,000 in the "Ingres Million Dillion Challenge" conducted by Computer Associates in 2004-2005. They created "Shift2Ingres," a toolkit to seamlessly migrate Oracle based applications onto Ingres. "Togi", as his friends lovingly call him, is an exceptional singer and has great culinary skills. He can often be found humming tunes from popular Hindi songs. He aspires to open a multi-cuisine restaurant in the future. |

He holds a BTech in Quake 3 from IITMadras(his degree reads Computer Science though). He spent a little overa year at Trilogy before joining Riya in Sep '06. He loves sport in general, and basketball in particular. His idea of theperfect weekend evening in Bangalore is to spend it playing basketball.He does not spend too many weekends in town though; he goes on treks orbike trips whenever he can find company. He dreams of going on a year long world tour someday. |

She quickly transformed from Editor to Marketing Manager in charge of product merchandising. In her latest transformation, she has taken on the role of Product Manager. Jacquie is championing Like.com's super-stylish makeover while wrangling Engineers into status meetings. Jacquie came to Like.com from White Cat Media, where she was the Managing Editor of SheFinds.com. Her in-the-know obsession with trends and pop culture kept SheFinds at the top in it's genre of new media. Her fashion commentary has appeared on sites like MSN Shopping, AOLStyle, and Glam.com. She received her BFA from New York University's Tisch School of the Arts and spent 16 years in the entertainment industry as an actor, then director, playwright, and arts administrator. Jacquie may be the only woman around who loves Mopar and Marc Jacobs equally. |

Michelle joined Like.com and made quick work of cleaning up the company's internal operations. Stock Adminstration, Purchasing, Event Planning and HR are just a few of the day-to-day operations that Michelle manages. In her previous life she ran opertations at Kadiri, Inc. Michelle is married with three little fashionistas-in-the-making who love shopping online. She volunteers as a Girl Scout Leader and is also the Website Committee Chair for her children's school. In her free time, Michelle can be found at the lake, relaxing in wine country, and organizing social events for friends and family. |
![]() Mehul Nariyawala Director of Merchant Operations and Web Analytics Mehul grew up in Baroda, India, went to high school in West Palm Beach, Florida, graduated from University of Maryland with BS in Interdisciplinary Studies in Bioinformatics-whatever-it-means-in Baltimore, Maryland, learned how-to-burn-$25M-in-one-year-at-bubble-start-up called Collaborex in Fairfax, Virginia, earned an MBA from University of Chicago in Hyde Park, Chicago, and FINALLY, convinced Like.com founders that he had lived in too many cities, so they hired him to work at Like.com and settle in Bay Area. (Since moving to United States, Mehul has lived in 17 different apartments. Somebody please get him to buy a house...) Mehul joined Like.com in December '06, as apprentice-in-training to Munjal Shah, CEO of Like.com. Since then he has worn many hats at Like.com in an effort to learn how-NOT-to-burn-$25M-in-a-year. At present, he's spearheading Like.com's Merchant Operations and Business Intelligence efforts. When he's not working, he is playing with his son Aahan, rooting for the Washington Redskins, reading another old-wine-in-new-bottle business book, or fueling his fire to start a company of his own by reading stories of successful entrepreneurs. Mehul's ultimate goal is to move to India and empower at least one million of the children-on-the-streets to lead their lives out of poverty. |
![]() Eric Lee Software Architect Eric obtained his BS & MEng in CS from Cornell University. After he graduated in 2005, he worked in the Core Architecture team in Siemens Medical. While at Siemens, he worked with and mentored by numerous industry well-known software craftsmen, such as Naresh Jain and J. B. Rainsberger. Ever since, Eric has acquired a special programming taste and has a top notch refectoring skills. He doesn't like spaghetti that much! Today, Eric innovative at Like.com. He is in the process of making Like.com like no others. Eric embraces and enjoys changes and new technologies. Eric's homemade software was once showcased in Computex in Taipei, Taiwan. When Eric has free time(not), he enjoys watching a good movie in his home theater, cooking traditional Taiwanese and Chinese dishes and traveling. According to Eric, he has once cooked for more than 20 hungry souls. |
![]() Ahmet Bulut Senior Researcher Ahmet received his B.S in Computer Engineering from Bilkent University, Turkey. He moved to the States in year 2000 to pursue an advanced degree, PhD in Computer Science at UC Santa Barbara that undeniably has the most beautiful campus in the world. He has received an internationally recognized award in the area of Data Engineering Research in year 2003. After completing his PhD studies in year 2005, he worked for two years in the Advanced Development Group at Citrix Online. His primary focus was the design and analysis of distributed application platforms. He was in the core set of people to architect and build the first scalable and fault tolerant back-end infrastructure for the award winning online collaboration product GoToMeeting. At Like.com, he works on a diverse set of interesting problems from modeling user appeal and buying behavior to search relevance optimization and building smart shopping engines. Ahmet is one of the most pragmatic men of his age, and is very upfront in showing that side of him. |
![]() Jillian OrRico Merchant and Sales Manager Jillian was born and raised in Lafayette, Indiana where she was a dedicated classical violinist for 14 years and junior olympic springboard and platform diver. She later went on to have a bluegrass band called Wolf Creek in her college years. After 4 years of gaining her B.S. in French and International Trade from Clemson University where she was recruited to their ACC Division I Swimming and Diving Team, she moved to France where she worked for a professional horse back rider and then on to teaching at Lycee, Gaston Berger for 2 years. She comes to Like.com from Yahoo! where she spent the majority of her past three years there as an account executive within Yahoo! HotJobs and with the Yahoo! Display team. With impeccable coding techniques and styles he singlehandedly developed many successful projects. His motto is "If it's done by me, it's rock solid." While not working, he enjoys picking up new hobbies. One day he wanted to solve the Rubik's cube, and he did it in a matter of hours. Another day he fell in love with piano. Having never learned to play the piano from an instructor, he managed to play Comptine d'un autre ete within one week. He also enjoys various sports and activities including basketball, billiards, table tennis, bowling, turkey bowling, midget tossing, and performing magic. ![]() Tianli Yu Senior Researcher Tianli came to like.com to bring new computer vision capabilities to its server clusters. He got his Ph.D. from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, studying principles of 3D vision and computer rendering in the midst of a corn field. After graduation, he spent another two years in Motorola Labs teaching various vision tricks to those little devices called "cell phones", and was amazed by how his new born son could master them effortlessly within months. Tianli was born in the beautiful city of Hangzhou, China, and grew up in the oriental pearl - Shanghai. As a father of two, most of his spare time is spent playing with his kids. He also enjoys reading new developments in science and technology. |
![]() Marissa Goodman Director of Fashion & Trend Marissa brings 10 years of experience as a fashion designer to lead Like.com's team in trend and creative merchandising. She moved to San Francisco in 1997 when she was accepted to The Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising. She immediately fell in love with the city and her studies in fashion design. Marissa has designed clothing for Old Navy, Esprit, Dockers, Blue Marlin, Tart and Janeville. Her vast knowledge of fashion is inspired from world travels, music, art, eclectic friends and a desire to give all people the opportunity to feel good in what they're wearing. In her free time, Marissa enjoys reading, hiking, traveling and eating. Her friends know her as their personal travel and restaurant guide. She is drawn to the energy of the city, but loves any chance she can get to make a trip to the beach the mountains or the country. Marissa grew up in a family of five in Portland Oregon. She says there is no place more beautiful and that smells more green in the Summer. |
![]() Mark Taylor Inventory Operations Manager Mark is from San Diego, CA. He moved up to the Bay Area to pursue a degree in Business Management as well as play Division III football at Menlo College. Currently, Mark is one of the leads in a "TOP SECRET" division here at Like.com. Not much is known about his job duties, but we hear his team is trying to takeover the world. When he's not out on secret missions he likes to attempt nearly impossible hikes, sometimes up to 20,000 ft (distance not height). He also loves any and all sports. If you don't find him dunking a basketball, serving a tennis ball, kicking a soccer ball, or catching a touchdown, then you'll definitely find him watching someone else doing these things. |
![]() Mia Lee Merchant Account Manager Mia Junghae Lee grew up knowing that fashion makes the world better. She decided to become a textile engineer and began her career with the Korean government's Ministry of Commerce, Industry, and Energy. Soon after she started her own consulting firm to make the world better through fashion, but Mia eventually realized she needed to be in Silicon Valley to realize her vision. On her way to California, she attended Johnson Graduate School of Management at Cornell University and was awarded the Fried Fellowship, one of the most prestigious Leadership Awards by the Dean. Immediately after graduation, Mia finally made it to Silicon Valley. At Like.com, she now pursues her dream of making the world a better place. If she isn't reading about the latest trends in fashion, Mia is probably out shopping at Forever 21. She is originally from Korea but has lived in Los Angeles, CA; Ithaca, NY; Oxford, England; and Montreal, Canada. |
![]() Hongyu Lu Software Architect Hongyu was born in Tianjin, China. He came to the States in 1998 to pursue his M.S. in Computer Science at SUNY in Buffalo. He almost became a tour guide, since Niagara Falls was a must whenever friends came over. After moving to the San Francisco Bay Area in 2000, Hongyu worked for both start-ups and large companies, enjoying the wide range of technology/engineering philosophies practiced by each. He joined Like.com from Barclays Global Investors where he was building a quantitative analytics and surveillance application for the cash trading desk. The application won the IThink Award because it is excellent at keeping credit analysts busy. Hongyu loves traveling and outdoor activities (especially tennis and soccer), as well as his recent addiction of playing with his little daughter. |
![]() Ismail Sebe, Ph.D. Senior Researcher Ismail Sebe was born in Turkey. He grew up in the sunny south coast of Turkey. He moved to Istanbul to get his BS in Electrical Engineering from Bogazici University, which he graduated in 2001. Later he came to states for his graduate studies. He got his MS in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University in 2003. Later he pursued his graduate studies at University of Southern California. He graduated with a PhD. in Electrical Engineering in 2007. His graduation thesis was on part-based 3D modeler from a single image. After graduation, he joined NVIDIA as a software engineer. He worked on parallel computer vision algorithms for GPU. |
![]() Jonathan Gheller Product Manager Jonathan was born and raised in Caracas, Venezuela. Prior to joining Like.com he founded three companies: a web based calendar for the Hispanic market, a food franchise in Venezuela and finally Fashmatch, a user generated outfit suggestion site. He comes to Like.com to work on the development and launch of new products and to take his product and business development skills to the next level. Jonathan likes to read, watch movies and bike. When not working, he likes to spent time with his wife, family and friends. He received his Masters in Political Economy from the University of Essex and his Bachelors in Economics from the Universidad Catolica Andres Bello. He also has a thesis pending on a Masters in Philosophy from the Universidad Simon Bolivar. |
